The German Society for School Astronomy e. V. (DGSA) was founded in Bad Homburg vor der Höhe in 2008 as a non-profit association and acted as the central point of contact for school astronomy in Germany. In May 2014 the DGSA dissolved again as an association.

In addition to its function as a lobby group, the association was committed to strengthening astronomical teaching in all school types and grades.

The purpose was to initiate and supervise school projects, general advisory activities especially for astronomy teachers, the organization of teacher training courses and conferences, political lobbying, the creation of teaching materials and the development of curricula and handouts as well as the implementation of campaigns and actions to promote school astronomy.

The DGSA was also the organizer of the Bergstrasse Space Days, which take place every two years in Seeheim-Jugenheim, as well as other series of events such as the DGSA Spaceports. Both series of events will continue after the DGSA has been dissolved.
