The weekly newspaper CM Ziehrer's Deutsche Musik-Zeitung: Organ for Theater and Art ( Deutsche Musik-Zeitung ) was published from 1874–1876 under the direction of CM Ziehrer in the 4 ° format.

As the successor to the Deutsche Musik-Zeitung, “CM Ziehrer's Deutsche Kunst & Musik-Zeitung: Central organ for music, theater, visual arts and literature” was published weekly from 1877 to 1880 in the 4 ° format.

Its successor, the "Deutsche Kunst- & [und] Musik-Zeitung <1880-1902>", the "Central Organ for Music, Theater, Fine Arts & Literature" appeared again weekly and in the same format from 1880 onwards. From 1893 onwards, the frequency of publication changed to twice a month.

While the offer of the Deutsche Musikzeitung was limited to musicological and music history articles as well as music supplements and extensive advertising sections, the successors expanded to include art, literature and theater studies as well as current information on events and news from the cultural scene.

The aesthetically designed title page mostly featured a portrait of an artist.
