German national discography

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The German National Discography is a discography of the shellac records published in Germany from 1890 to 1960 . The discography has been published by Birgit-Lotz-Verlag since 1991 on the private initiative of Rainer E. Lotz .

The work was awarded a prize for “excellence in historical recorded sound research” from the Association For Recorded Sound Collections (ARSC). Lotz is supported by ten co-authors .

The text contains the following information:

  • Name of the main artist
  • Place and time of recording
  • Names of the accompanying artists (for vocal recordings) or the refrain singers (for dance recordings)
  • Information about composers, lyricists
  • Films, plays, revues, operas, operettas, etc., from which the titles come
  • Label, order number and publication date
  • unpublished recordings and "alternative takes" with an indication of whether test pressings are known.

These admission criteria apply:

  • only regular pressing on shellac, so no private wire, tape and foil recordings or film soundtracks
  • occasionally various other sound carriers that belong to the "shellac era" and that have been commercially copied, e.g. B. Phonograph rollers, sound postcards , Tefifon tapes.

It is divided into thematic series, which in turn contain several volumes. Two volumes are planned per year. So far 23 volumes have been published:

With these volumes the series was discontinued
