The children learn German in all teaching situations. The musical field is also promoted in working groups that take place after the morning lessons (e.g. choir and recorder). The voluntary afternoon program takes place every afternoon. Before that, the children have a warm lunch in the cafeteria.

The high school

The grammar school begins with grade 5 and leads up to grade 13 to the German matriculation examination and the Italian “Maturità”. All exams take place in the school itself. For today's grade 10, however, the G8 has come into force, which is why the Abitur is completed in grade 12 from this grade onwards.

Since December 5, 1973, the school has been legally recognized by the Federal Republic of Germany as a German school abroad, which leads to the “maturity examination”. At the same time, according to the law of the Italian President of May 19, 1975, DS Genoa is entitled to issue the certificate of the Italian university entrance qualification ("Maturità"). The certificates of the school leaving examination enable you to study at Italian, German and many other universities. The exams take place in the school itself. The language of instruction is GERMAN and is taught by teachers who speak German as their mother tongue. According to the requirements of the Italian education authorities, some subjects are taught in Italian, also by native-speaking teachers. The German School Genoa corresponds to a science-linguistic grammar school. Accordingly, the pedagogical focus of the German School Genoa is in the areas of languages and natural sciences.

A total of five languages are taught at the DSG. In addition to German and Italian, the students learn English, Latin and French. Physics, chemistry, biology and computer science are taught in the field of natural sciences. At the end of class 12 (or class 11 for G8), a compulsory internship in Italy or other European countries is on the program, which is supervised by the school. The history of the school building

At the end of the 19th century the school was in Via Assarotti 31. On October 31, 1901, it moved to Via Goffredo Mameli 33, where there was space for a library with 675 volumes, a natural history collection (with an enclosure for exotic Animals), a dining room, a gymnasium and a botanical garden. But the number of pupils increased enormously after 1901, and so another move was necessary. The school board decided to temporarily rent the Palazzo in Via Caffaro 34B with the option of buying it later if it proved suitable. On October 1st, 1908, they moved into the schoolhouse, which has now been put through its paces, among others by 3 doctors and an architect. On February 18, 1909, the board decided to buy the building. However, this was not easy because the German School in Italy was not a legal entity and so could not carry out the act of purchase. So it came to an agreement with the Evangelical Community, which carried out the purchase through the Royal Prussian Higher Church Council and then assigned the building to the school.

The educational standards as well as the current curricula are implemented in the lessons of DS Genoa. Curricula in subjects that are taught in both languages (e.g. Sachkunde-Scienze) are coordinated and coordinated accordingly (LB3).
