German relay championships

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

German relay championships in running should be held for the first time in 2020.

The German Athletics Association (DLV) decided in its association council meeting on November 23, 2018 in Darmstadt, to determine the champions in the relay competitions for the first time for all age groups from youth to senior citizens in joint title fights. Previously, in the main program of the German Athletics Championships, in addition to several relays in the U20 youth class (4 × 400, 3 × 800 and 3 × 1000 meters), the women and men relay over 4 × 100 and 4 × 400 meters took place; these were outsourced as part of the framework of the German youth championships held long relay teams over 3 × 800 and 3 × 1000 meters, in order to enable the starters to take part in the individual competitions. Other relays in the age groups were part of the respective national title fight.

In this context, the number of relay competitions in which German championships are held has been expanded. The overview can be found below under disciplines.

The original DLV decision initially planned to hold its own relay championships as early as 2019. After protests from the clubs, the DLV decided at a further association council meeting in February 2019 not to plan relay championships until 2020. The relays, which would have been part of the main competition taking place in Berlin ( German Athletics Championships 2019 ), should originally be carried out entirely within the framework of the German U23 championships in Wetzlar in mid-June in the "transition year 2019"; in May this decision was also revised and decided to leave the 4 × 100 meter relays in Berlin.

Conditions of participation

The usual conditions of the German Athletics Association apply to participation as well as the minimum performance listed in the announcement, depending on the discipline and age group.

Disciplines

In addition to the relays of 4 × 400 m (men and women), 3 × 800 m (women) and 3 × 1000 m (men), which have also been held in the age groups, further relay competitions have been added to the program:

  • 4 × 200 m mixed relay (active and senior classes)
  • 4 × 400 m mixed relay (active and senior classes)
  • Medley relay 400 - 300 - 200 - 100 meters (male and female youth U20)
  • As a framework competition - i.e. without a championship title - there will also be a 4 × 100 m mixed hurdles pendulum relay for the active age group.

Mixed relay means that two women and two men start in a team.

On the other hand, the men's 4 × 800 m and 4 × 1500 m relays found in the official championship program for some time were not taken into account again.

cancellation

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 relay championships were canceled by the DLV on April 16, 2020. An alternative date is not planned.
