The Dextrarum iunctio was part of an ancient Roman wedding custom . Traditionally, at this ceremony, the bride and groom are brought together by a married woman, who then shake their right hands; then a bloodless sacrifice is made. Representations of the Dextrarum iunctio are common in Roman art, for example on sarcophagi .
