history

DIE BRÜCKE - Carinthia's cultural magazine - first edition 1975

From 1971 to 1973 the state of Carinthia had published a previous magazine under the title Im Schnittpunkt .

The bridge itself appeared from 1975 to 1980, initially once or twice a year. During this period, 12 issues were published under editor-in-chief Miriam Raggam-Lindquist. The booklets had the special format 23.5 x 30 cm and were printed in black and white with the exception of a few color images per issue. During this time the bridge had a certain yearbook character, for each issue a focus topic (e.g. literature, media, music) was chosen.

The cover of an edition of BRÜCKE under editor-in-chief Ernst Gayer 1981 - 1996.

In 1981 the bridge changed its appearance under editor-in-chief Ernst Gayer. The format was reduced to 21 x 28 cm, the size was reduced to around 80 pages and an overview of the contents appeared on the cover. In the period from 1981 to 1996, Die Brücke appeared quarterly, with a total of 59 issues under Gayer. No more focus topics were selected, and the bridge took on the form of a culture magazine. It also opened up to contemporary trends and current affairs. In the imprint, their essential purpose was described as follows: "Information about cultural events in Carinthia and its neighboring regions as well as all over the world, provided it is of concern for Carinthia." Gayer gave the Carinthian artists a lot of space, characteristic were those printed on different colored paper ( First) publications of literary works or the so-called "BRÜCKE-Edition Grafikdrucke" to take out.

With the editors-in-chief Thomas Kreuzer and Georg Maurer, Die Brücke changed fundamentally in 1999. The logo including the subtitle has been completely renewed, as has the layout , the basic concept and the structure of the content (based on sheet 3K ) as well as the frequency of publication. The numbering of the magazine started again at No. 1. From now on there was an illustrated title page, the magazine format became larger again with the special dimensions 23 x 33 cm in graphic terms.

The magazine, which was then published ten times a year and slimmed down to 44 pages, now also offered its readership services - such as a comprehensive schedule preparation under the title “Horizons”, a page with letters to the editor as well as book and music tips about Carinthian artists and publishers, as well as a Kaultur calendar . The setting of priorities for each issue was resumed. From 2003 to 2016 Die Brücke was continued by editor-in-chief Günther M. Trauhsnig.

Current

Gabbi Hochsteiner has been editor-in-chief since 2017 . Under her leadership, the bridge was further developed on the basis of a leaf analysis and a reader survey. Since the June – July 2017 edition, the numbers have been re-counted as “bridge generation 5”. The service section including the cultural calendar was retained, but old formats such as the addition of art prints or workshop discussions were reintroduced. The cover is now designed with works by Carinthian artists, but the original spelling of the logo was reintroduced.

The 2017 reader survey showed that an average of four people read a magazine, so that with an average of 1,800 copies, the number of readers can be estimated at around 7,000 people.
