Summary

The protagonist of the series is 12-year-old Arthur Penhaligon , who has asthma . The series begins on a Monday, the main action on the Monday of the following week. Each band plays one day this week and closes on a Sunday. Each day is represented by a being the summarized as trustee (engl. Trustees ) are referred to. Each of them rules a part of the house which is the center of the universe. The seven regions in the house are, in order of trustees: the Lower House, the Far Wide, the Frontier Sea, the Great Labyrinth, the Middle House, the Upper House, and the Incomparable Gardens.

At the beginning of the first book, Arthur still had a relatively normal life. He is an adopted child in a large family. Arthur was supposed to die of an asthma attack on Monday, which leads to an encounter with Mister Monday . He made Arthur heir to the kingdom out of convenience and gave him part of the First Key, which was shaped like the minute hand of a clock. Arthur is relieved of his asthma in contact with the key. After some circumstance, Arthur arrives at the house where he goes on a series of strange and dangerous adventures.

Arthur discovers that the legacy of the architect (creator of the house and the so-called "secondary realms" that surround the house) has not been fulfilled as intended. Instead, it was broken into seven pieces by the Architect's Trustees, Tomorrow's Days. The legacy was now forced to act independently and its first part appoints Arthur as the rightful heir to the kingdom. Now it is Arthur's job to find all the missing parts of the legacy, defeat every trustee (each of whom is afflicted with one of the seven deadly sins ), take over their domains by obtaining the respective key and uncover the secrets of the house.

Arthur Penhaligon

Arthur, a 12 year old boy, has just moved to a new town and just wants to adapt. When he has a life-threatening asthma attack, a strange metal object saves his life: a key that the even stranger Mr Montag gave him. When his servants, the Bringer, spread a mysterious plague in Arthur's hometown, Arthur makes his way to the house, a strange structure that only he can see. Arthur learns that this structure contains a universe of its own and is informed of his task: he must disempower the trustees and take away the keys. Arthur cannot lead a normal life until he overturns the Trustees, also known as the Tomorrow's Days. To do that, he must use the keys, which slowly but surely infect him with magic and turn him into a citizen of the house. Since Arthur does not want this (because he cannot return to Earth as a citizen), it becomes a central theme of the series: he only uses the key when absolutely necessary.

Susi turquoise blue

Susi Turquoise Blue (Engl. Suzy Turquoise Blue ) is a child of Piper and was an ink pen 6th degree. She was brought into the house by the piper. Later she was appointed by Arthur in a higher position: As Monday's Tierce , the personal assistant of Monday's noon, previously Monday's evening twilight. Susi was born as Susanna Dyer in England at the time of the plague. She is adventurous, childish, and loves breaking rules, but is loyal to Arthur.
