The snow princess

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Snow Princess ( Japanese 白 姫 抄 , Shirahime-shō ) is a manga by the character quartet Clamp . In this single volume three stories are told about the snow princess Shirahime, which are held together by a loose framework and are based on old Japanese legends about the Yuki Onna . It is striking that the stories usually do not have a happy ending.

The Snow Princess first appeared in Japan in 1992 with Kodansha , later in 2001 with Kadokawa Shoten and 2004 with Egmont Manga and Anime in Germany.

A young farmer meets a strikingly beautiful young woman in the snow, who seems to be waiting for something. He warns them about the snow princess Shirahime, whose tears supposedly turn to snow. This framework plot surrounds the stories as a prologue and an epilogue .

The Wolfsberg ( 牙 狼 の 山 , Garō no Yama )

A young woman sets out for the mountains to avenge the death of her father, who appears to have been killed by a wolf. On the way, however, she is attacked by wild dogs and finally rescued by a large black wolf. She realizes she is wrong and eventually becomes friends with the wolf. But their happiness does not last forever.

The ice flower ( 氷 の 花 , Kōri no Hana )

A young man moves into the world and asks his girlfriend Kaya to wait for him. At the eternally frozen ice lake, she promises to wait for him and not to change for him. When he returned after 30 years, of course, he gave up hope that she was waiting for him. But she kept her promise, albeit painfully.

The happy couple ( 比翼 の 鳥 , Hiyoku no Tori )

A young warrior gets lost in the snow-covered landscape after the battle. Only the thought of his girlfriend keeps him going. When he sees a happy pair of herons in the snow, he goes crazy and kills one of the birds. When after a while he comes across the now headless heron carcass, he realizes that he has run in circles and gives up his hopes. But suddenly a strange woman appears with a skull in her hand.
