The golden ladder
The golden ladder was a series of booklets by the Austrian Youth Book Club , which was published by Jugend und Volk in the early 1950s . In the format of the popular booklet novels , this edition belongs to the so-called good youth literature . These booklets were published by various organizations, especially in Austria and Switzerland , in order to form a counterpart to the normal “ junk booklets ”.
Intention of this series
According to the publisher, this series was especially suitable for readers between 6 and 9 years of age. The series name is to be understood symbolically. The young reader should climb a ladder with good literature and increase his knowledge. Each booklet in the series stood for one rung of the “Golden Ladder”. So whoever read a booklet climbed a rung. At the end of the ladder was the series The Great Adventure - a series for the more youthful reader.
