The golden forge

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"The golden forge" is a hymn of praise to the Virgin Mary by Konrad von Würzburg from the 13th century. In his work, the author has collected the entire tradition of devotion to Mary from the centuries and merged it into a single, great song of praise. This explains the title of the text : "In the 'forge' of his heart the poet wants to melt a poem out of gold, a piece of jewelery with precious stones and a 'carbuncle sense'". It is Konrad's most important religious poem.
