Digital media adapter

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A digital media adapter ( DMA ) is a device that connects conventional entertainment media such as a TV or stereo system with the PC. The data encrypted in packets is sent from a PC or network server ( NSLU ) to the DMA via a network cable or a wireless WLAN connection . The DMA converts these data packets into a form that can be read by the respective output medium (TV / hi-fi system). This can be both analog (e.g. amplifier) and digital devices (e.g. LCD monitor). This connection adapter functionality is usually already integrated in a media center PC. If this media PC is located near the hi-fi or TV system, no extra DMA is required.
