The Kalit is a mostly braided basket that was mainly used by farmers in the Brandenburg Uckermark to store their meals while working in the fields. It is about 20-30 cm wide and up to 40 cm high. Often woven from willow branches, it has a lid made of the same material for closing.

This basket achieved national fame a. a. through the novel " Die Heiden von Kummerow " by the Angermünder writer Ehm Welk .
