As remote or direct readout in is linguistics a particular interference phenomenon called; elements (forms, words, structures) are mistakenly transferred from one language to another in which they are not correct. However, the speaker or writer is usually not aware of this. The cause is usually insufficient knowledge of the target language and the associated inability to translate correctly into this language.

Computer programs for heuristic translation usually use the direct display of individual words as a last resort if rule-based translation and dictionary searches have not been successful.

An example of a direct advertisement is the translation of the English word “ nation ” into German “Nation” - this may occasionally apply, but more often “Volk” or even “People” or “People” would be the correct translation. Another example often found in the news is the English word “administration”, which is often translated into German as “administration”, although it usually refers to the term “government”.
