Discology

The disco Logie is the science that deals with commercially-produced recording and distribution and mimeographed recordings employed under musicological, sociological, psychological, economic and technological aspects. The term discology was coined by the musicologist Erich Valentin as early as 1961 , but it wasn't until around 2000 that academic musicology began to deal with discological issues. In the German-speaking area, the relevant publications by Martin Elste have taken a pioneering role in the discological study of classical music. Discology differs from discography insofar as the latter, as an auxiliary scientific discipline of discology, is the systematic documentation of sound carriers in analogy to bibliography.
