Under discrepancy (from latin discrepantia , mismatch ', disagreement') is generally understood as a mismatch between two matters whose mismatch or inconsistency. This can also refer to what people say and do, for example in relation to two statements or facts .

There is a discrepancy in facts, for example, when a politician acts completely differently after an election than he previously announced or promised. In this context one speaks of a discrepancy between speech and action or claim and reality - "preach water and drink wine" - and thus also of its so-called height of fall.

Discrepancy (math)

In the theory of uniform distribution modulo 1 , the discrepancy of a sequence is the deviation of the distribution of this sequence from the uniform distribution .
