The tournament was divided into a preliminary round and a final round. The eight participating teams first played a simple round-robin tournament . The first four played for the title in Poule Haute , the last four in Poule Basse against relegation. The total of the team points (1 point for a win, 0.5 points for a draw, 0 points for a defeat), then the number of board points (1 point for a win, 0.5 points for a draw) decided the placement , 0 points for a loss). For the final placement, both the points from the preliminary round and the points from the final round were taken into account.
Game dates
The competitions were held on October 15 and 22, November 5 and 19, December 3 and 17, 1995, January 7, February 25, March 10 and 24, 1996.
Bonnevoie had the best starting position with 6.5: 0.5 points. Two wins against Differdange and Dudelange almost secured the title before the last round, only a large defeat (at least 1: 7) against Belvaux would have left them the title. In fact, Bonnevoie won 4.5: 3.5 and became champion.
After the preliminary round, the relegation of Dommeldange-Beggen and the relegation of Schëffleng were practically unavoidable. The decision between Bettembourg and Bonnevoies second team was made at the green table. Bettembourg won the competition with 4.5: 3.5, but this was rated 8: 0 for Bonnevoies second team, so that Bettembourg had to relegate.
