The national division (chess) 1999/2000 was the top division of the Luxembourg team championship in chess.
Gambit Bonnevoie became champion for the fifth time in a row . The second team from Le Cavalier Differdange had been promoted from the Promotion d'honneur (second promoted team would have been the third team from Gambit Bonnevoie, but since their own second team ended up on a relegation zone of the national division, the status quo remained unchanged). Differdange's second team had to be relegated together with the Bonnevoie second team. For the reported team squads, see team squad of the national division (chess) 1999/2000 .
The tournament was divided into a preliminary round and a final round. The eight participating teams first played a simple round-robin tournament . The first four played for the title in Poule Haute , the last four in Poule Basse against relegation. The total of the team points (1 point for a win, 0.5 points for a draw, 0 points for a defeat), then the number of board points (1 point for a win, 0.5 points for a draw) decided the placement , 0 points for a loss). For the final placement, both the points from the preliminary round and the points from the final round were taken into account.
Game dates
The competitions were held on October 24, November 7 and 21, 1999, January 9 and 23, February 6 and 20, March 5 and 19 and April 2, 2000.
Bonnevoie went into the finals two points ahead of Echternach, and after Echternach did not get more than a draw against Differdange, Bonnevoie's title defense was already perfect two rounds from the end.
After the preliminary round, Differdange's second team was knocked out in last place, while the other three teams were close together. However, since Bonnevoies second team lost the first two rounds, the second teams from Differdange and Bonnevoie were already relegated before the last round.
