A dome camera is a surveillance camera that is built into a semicircular tinted plastic dome. These devices are installed in connection with video protection systems .

The dome cameras, which are protected against vandalism, are used in particularly high-risk areas, indoors and outdoors as well as in public transport.

The tinted dome makes it very difficult to see in which direction the camera is pointing. This creates a higher deterrent. In addition, these cameras are better protected against manipulation and vandalism than normal cameras.

Speed dome cameras are also commercially available, which can be swiveled and tilted by means of a built-in motor, so that areas in which several cameras are normally required can be monitored with just one speed dome camera.

Speed dome cameras are controlled with a control panel on which fixed positions can be saved and additionally brought into the desired position using joysticks . Such cameras are mainly used at petrol stations and in department stores.
