The Dompeter , from Latin domus Petri (House of Peter), is the former Roman Catholic parish church of Molsheim in Alsace and is considered the oldest church in Alsace.

history

According to a legend, Maternus of Cologne is said to have founded Sankt Peter (Dompeter). Excavations carried out in 1914 have shown that there was a previous building in the same place as early as the 7th century. The current church was built between 1049 and 1053 by Pope Leo IX. consecrated. The tower of the church was restored after a lightning strike in 1746. The Romanesque apse was replaced in 1823 by today's choir. In 1933 the Boy Scouts set out to restore the Church.
