The Cathedral Treasure and Diocesan Museum Eichstätt in Eichstätt is the diocesan museum of the Diocese of Eichstätt (Bavaria).
history
The museum goes back to a donation from Pastor Sebastian Mutzl , who bequeathed his collection of Christian art to the Episcopal Seminary in Eichstätt in 1899 . After its temporary closure in 1943 and reopening in 1947, the museum found a new home in the Kipfenberger Stadel southeast of Eichstätter Cathedral and in the baroque rooms above the Mortuarium . After the expansion of the rooms threatened by decay in 1977, the museum was reopened in March 1982 as the Diocesan Museum Eichstätt . The original collection was expanded to include important pieces such as three medieval tapestries on the Walburgis legend or the Faber altar . The museum has been entitled Domschatz- und Diözesanmuseum Eichstätt since 2001 .
