Donal Lyons

Donal Lyons is an Irish politician, former member of the Progressive Democrats and a member of Galway City Council since 1999 .

Lyons had been a member of the party since 1986, when the Progressive Democrats formed their association in Galway. In 1991 he ran for an election for the first time. However, he did not succeed in being elected to the Galway City Council . Only in 1999 and again in 2004 Lyons was elected to the city council. From July 2001 to June 2002 he was mayor of the city. In the elections for the 29th and 30th Dáil Éireann , Lyons ran for a seat, but could not win either 2002 or 2007. In the course of the dissolution of the Progressive Democrats in 2009 Lyons ran as an independent for a seat on the city council. Here he was able to defend his mandate.

Lyons is married and has two daughters.
