Donaldson (fashion label)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Donaldson was a Belgian ready-to-wear label founded in 1985 by Marcy Szwarcburt. The trademark was a Mickey Mouse.

The fashion company was the first to receive a license from Disney to use the cartoon characters. Initially, production was limited to a line of pajamas that were sold in the Brussels luxury boutique "Bouvy". The clothes were particularly well received by Disney lovers, and so the range was expanded to include an exquisite children's collection with additional Disney characters. In 1989, the first official shop was founded in Brussels, where women’s clothing as well as decoration and furnishings are available. In addition to this flagship store, there were only 26 other stores worldwide.

Donaldson ran into financial difficulties in 2006. In 2007 the company posted significant losses and in 2008 also lost the Walt Disney license on which the company based its success.

In 2008 the Belgian parent company Donaldson & Partners SA filed for bankruptcy. The Donaldson branches in Belgium and the Netherlands had already been sold at the beginning of the year and all other national sales companies were closed (including ten locations in Germany).
