An improvised toilet facility is referred to as a thunder beam, in which a wooden beam is attached as a makeshift seat above a septic tank dug in the open air . Several people can sit next to each other on the beam at the same time and "thunder".

The term was originally used in the military and in the scout scene, but is occasionally used as a slang expression for toilet .
