Doping Victims Aid

The Doping Victims Aid e. V. was founded in March 1999 to support doping victims in competitive sports , in particular the GDR sports system with forced doping . Michael Lehner is chairman .

The goals of the association are:

  • the support of former competitive athletes, mainly from the GDR, who have suffered mental and physical damage from the state-prescribed and forced intake of doping substances,
  • establishing contacts with former and active top athletes and their children,
  • Prevention work, lectures in schools and sports clubs on the dangers and long-term damage of performance-enhancing agents and nutritional supplements, carried out by former athletes and experts.

The Doping Victims Aid has been awarding the Heidi Warrior Medal since 2000 to people who have made outstanding contributions to the fight against doping in sport.

By April 2015, the association had 194 officially recognized victims of GDR doping.

The association is a member of the Union of Victims' Associations of Communist Tyranny .

From the founding of the association in 1999 to 2013, the Weinheim doctor Klaus Zöllig was chairman, and the former sprinter Ines Geipel was chairman until December 2018 .
