A Doppelbesäumkreissäge shortly Doppelbesäumer or edgers called, is a classic machine in the saw mill and the sawmill industry with which to lumber in a single operation a clean edge, the "seam" of two is made pages.

The terms edging circular saw or Säumer are also used, but they are imprecise as they can refer to saws that only process one edge per work step.

If a tree trunk is divided into boards or planks with a gate or a log band saw , these initially only have two planar surfaces and at the edge the irregular hem of the tree trunk, the tree edge or the edge of the forest . A double-edging circular saw is used to cut this hem on both sides straight and parallel. The process is called trimming , the laterally sloping tree edges are called splinters. This waste is mostly used for the production of wood chips or pellets .

Often additional separating cuts are made at the same time as trimming

The machines have a rotating main shaft, now mostly driven by an electric motor, and mostly a chain or roller feed. A saw blade with a fixed position runs on the main shaft and at least one other blade that is easy to adjust because the available trimming width changes after almost every workpiece.

Double-edgers and circular edging saws are still mostly fed by hand and with a sense of proportion. However, there are sophisticated accessories such as laser alignment lights and programmable width adjustments. In the meantime, computer-controlled loading machines are often used, which first of all optically measure the workpiece (board, plank) and then optimally adjust and load the machine accordingly.
