Double luck
Double happiness ( Chinese 囍 , Pinyin xǐ or 雙喜 / 双喜 , shuāngxǐ ) symbolizes happiness in marriage in China and consists of two connected symbols for the word 'happiness, joy' ( 喜 , xǐ ).
It is a symbol of marriage and is hung (in red) as a paper cut on the doors of houses in which a newlyweds live or a wedding takes place.
In the Forbidden City , imperial weddings took place in the so-called Eastern Chamber of Warmth of the Palace of Earthly Rest , the walls of which were painted red. In this room there was a red lacquered partition wall with the letters Doppelglück in gold letters. The carpet was also embroidered with this character as well as with dragons and phoenixes.
