The double sum analysis (double sum curve method) is a statistical technique in the hydrology or meteorology to In homogeneities to identify a series of measurements and to clean, if necessary. For this purpose, the values of a series of measurements known to be homogeneous and related to the data to be tested (for example precipitation / runoff or rainfall values of neighboring measuring points) and the series to be tested are added up and graphically plotted against each other.
The linear relationship between the two series of measurements is now assessed. In the event of any deviations (e.g. apparent systematic error from a certain date), either a shortened measurement period can now be used for further analysis or the systematic error can be removed using linear regression, for example .
