The Evangelical Lutheran village church of Göringen is located in the Göringen district of the independent city of Eisenach in Thuringia .

history

The oldest verifiable building findings on the site of today's church in the center of the village are dated to the period 1058-1072, the oldest masonry found 1180-1240. In the 15th century the church was renovated or rebuilt, inside a series of pictures with religious motifs was painted on the plaster, after the iconoclasm in the 16th century these frescoes were whitewashed.

During the fighting in the Werra Valley at the end of the Second World War , the church tower was hit and damaged on April 1, 1945.

During the GDR era , the war damage was repaired, but the building was not completely repaired. In 1990 the church was in danger of collapsing and has since been renovated by the local parish. During the restoration, the whitewashed paintings from the Rococo period were discovered and reconstructed.

The images show the "Ascension of Christ" and the "Last Judgment". The gallery balustrades bear images of the apostles. The pulpit is decorated with depictions of Moses and Jesus. Symbols from the 19th century can be found above the organ
