plane

The C-47 Skytrain is the military version of the Douglas DC-3 . The C-47 served as a transporter for training parachutists in the Turkish Air Force . It was given to a diving center in Kaş after it was taken out of service . With the help of the airplane, a new artificial reef was to be created in the bay . Furthermore, the sinking should create another diving attraction in Kaş. The plane was sunk on July 1, 2009 and is now largely intact in about 20 meters of water on the sandy seabed. The interior can also be dived through the open side hatch. The middle section is empty except for the parachutist benches that are still there. The cockpit is divided into two areas. The space for the navigator is located in the rear, and the actual cockpit with the two seats in the front. It is so narrow in the cockpit that a diver can only swim backwards out of the way. In the stern is another room that can also be dived. This used to be a toilet and storage space for accessories.

Dive site

The dive site is called Fener Kulesi or Lighthouse / Dakota and is located a little south of the Kaş lighthouse. It can only be reached by boat. The area around the wreck is characterized by sandy subsoil, thanks to the sheltered location there are no waves and no currents, but visibility is often limited. The wreck attracts a lot of fish, it is moderately overgrown. The dive site is also well suited for beginners. To the north of the wreck there are remains of a former aquaculture on the sea floor . There is a reef on the coast side.
