Douglas Vieira

Douglas Eduardo Vieira (born June 17, 1960 in Londrina ) is a former Brazilian judoka . He was second in the 1984 Olympics.

The only 1.70 m tall Vieira fought in the light heavyweight division, the weight class up to 95 kilograms. At the Pan American Championships in Mexico City in 1984, he won the silver medal behind Cuban Isaac Azcuy . At the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, he defeated the Spaniard Alberto Rubio and the Senegalese Abdoulkhadre Daffe . In the quarterfinals he won over the Italian Yuri Fazi and in the semifinals over the Icelander Bjarni Friðriksson, each with a Yuko rating. The final against the South Korean Ha Hyung-joo also lasted the full fighting time, Ha won by referee decision (Yusei-Gachi).

1985 Vieira retired from the World Championships in Seoul in the first round against the Dutch Theo Meijer . He won a few medals in international tournaments until 1993, but no longer took part in major international championships.
