Downloadable Sounds Level 2
Downloadable Sounds Level 2 ( DLS2 ) is an industry standard of the MIDI Manufacturers Association for generating sound from wave samples. The samples are loaded into the synthesizer during runtime and are not permanently installed.
DLS2 offers options for sound processing through six-stage envelopes, superimposition of several voices and low-frequency oscillators for modulation effects and low-pass resonance filters.
DLS2 is the basis of the software synthesizer service in DirectMusic , part of DirectX and is also used in Microsoft Xbox .
