Downstream (software development)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Downstream is a term from distributed software development (often open source ) and describes the direction of a patch away from the original developers or maintainers of the software .

For example, the developers or supervisors of a split-off software project (fork) are offered a downstream patch. If it is accepted there, its developers or maintainers will include the patch in a future release in their split-off software project.

In addition, upstream describes the opposite direction. See also there for a patch that will be sent to the original development team.
