A pair of twisting pliers , twisting pliers or wire (z) twisting pliers , colloquially also twisting pliers , is a tool that can be used to attach anti-twist devices using a safety wire . The procedure is mainly used as screw locking in aircraft construction.

Screw heads with cross bores are required. The safety wire is pulled through one of these cross holes, then both ends are clamped into the jaws of the drill pliers. Pulling the central spindle causes the pliers to rotate around its longitudinal axis, twisting the ends of the safety wire together until the twist extends to the next screw head.

Usually two screws are connected to each other in this way so that they secure each other, but there can be more.
