The Klaipėda Drama Theater ( Lithuanian Klaipėdos dramos teatras ) is a theater in the Lithuanian port city of Klaipėda . In 1935 the Šiauliai Theater was closed and transferred to Klaipėda, the former Memel .

The theater moved into the Stadttheater (later the Städtisches Schauspielhaus ) built in 1860 on the Neuer Markt. It operated as the State Theater in Klaipėda until the annexation of Klaipėda by the German Reich in 1939. The first head of the acting troupe was Juozas Stanulis.

reconstruction

The building, which was occupied in 1935, was rebuilt from the planning stage in 1983, retaining the facade, and was to be handed over to its intended use in 1985.

A festive opening ceremony took place on November 7, 2015. The theater became the most modern theater in the Baltic States. The lower rooms of the theater were equipped with extraordinary sound and lighting technology as well as a modern hydraulic system. The automatically controlled stage moves together with the grandstand. The lifting mechanisms can raise the stage and the grandstand to different levels and rotate them if necessary. The chairs can be hidden in the floor.

This creates an even level on which the scenery can be erected. In addition, a theater museum was set up, which reminds of the past of the facility.
