Tripod over fire

A tripod or tripod is a historical kitchen appliance . It served as a free-standing device for pots or pans on an open hearth fire. Tribrachs have been proven in Central Europe since the Middle Ages , they were already known in antiquity (see Tripod ). There were triangular and round devices. As a "pan chair" they were given a protruding arm to hold the handle of the pan. You didn't need a tripod for the special kettle shape Grapen , as it had its own feet. As an alternative, pots could also be hung over the fireplace with a height-adjustable kettle hook (Hal).
