Third way (Palestine)

The Third Way ( Arabic الطريق الثالث, DMG aṭ-ṭarīq aṯ-ṯāliṯ ) is a small Palestinian political party that serves in the Palestinian Authority (PNA).

The party founded on December 16, 2005 is led by Salam Fayyad and Hanan Ashrawi . The election campaign was led by Sami Abdel-Shafi . The party presents itself as an alternative to the two-party system of Hamas and Fatah . In the election of the Palestinian Legislative Council in January 2006, the party received 2.41 percent of the vote and won two of the 132 council seats.

In the wake of the takeover of the Gaza Strip by Hamas , the President of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmud Abbas , appointed Salam Fayyad as Prime Minister of the new Palestinian Authority on June 15, 2007.
