Drive time

Drive Time is radio the prime time , which mainly for a few hours in the morning and late afternoon each commuters in the rush hour on the car radio to reach.

The Federal Communications Commission has standardized the morning drive time in the United States to be between 6:00 am and 10:00 am and the afternoon drive time between 3:00 pm and 7:00 pm. Programs that receive a slot in those time slots can expect the highest ratings . In between is the "daytime" period.

During Drive Time, target group-specific programs are broadcast on the radio. In addition to music, this includes traffic radio , frequent time announcements or specific radio advertisements for cars and their accessories, for example. Distracting or lengthy interviews are avoided . The interval between news broadcasts every half an hour is also typical . In the United States, Drive Time is the only period of time during which radio news audience ratings exceed television news ratings.
