from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The national drug death commemoration day is celebrated on July 21 with commemorative events in several German cities to commemorate the people who have died as a result of their drug use , in particular drug abuse .

history

The drug death commemoration day goes back to an initiative of relatives of a drug death and was celebrated for the first time in 1998 in Gladbeck . The idea was picked up by many organizations in the field of drug aid across Germany and the movement expanded. In 2010, commemorative events took place on this day in more than 60 German cities, and there are also international events.

Actions

For a long time, a symbolic coffin was the center of memorial events in many cities . In addition to pure commemorative events and church services, political campaigns are now also taking place in many cities on Remembrance Day. In 2013, for example, a drug policy discussion was held in Stuttgart with representatives of state politics, the city of Stuttgart, drug help as well as substitution doctors and those affected. Cultural events such as B. Concerts take place.

reception

On the occasion of the Drug Death Remembrance Day, the fate of drug users is reported in the media across Germany in order to raise public awareness beyond the local campaigns.
