Pressure chronograph

The pressure chronograph is an instrument used in astronomy and geodesy for the automatic time registration of star passages .

It was further developed around 1960 from the Hipp'schen band chronograph with siren escapement and no longer prints the measured times analogously on a strip of paper or wax paper, but directly in the form of numbers. The status of the internal clock was determined using radio time signals . Well-known manufacturers were the Swiss companies Longines and Omega as well as Favag .

The accuracy of the time registration is in the range of a few milliseconds . Newer chronographs are equipped with a highly precise quartz clock and store the times digitally.
