Summary

Richard Franklin / Robert Bonham

Richard is a murderer who started his career as a child when he killed his father in a carefully planned "accident". He's extremely clever at getting false evidence. He injured himself with a knife after beating his two foster brothers, so that they got into trouble because they had apparently seriously injured Richard. He fell in love with a woman (Jessica), but left her no personal space to live in. She tried to escape a few times, but eventually he found her and killed her. After that, Richard (whose real name is Robert) assumed Richard's identity after killing him, before he observed the man very closely. By chance he met Julie, who looked very much like his ex-wife. He just wanted Julie to himself and loved her obsessively.

Julie Barenson

Julie married Jim as the first and only man she ever loved. His sudden death drove her to despair. Before Jim died, he made an agreement with a friend to bring Julie a Great Dane on Christmas Eve 1998 that Jim had always wanted. She called him Singer. The dog took part in their lives and became more and more human. She started dating men again after four years, but she was still dissatisfied with her behavior.

Mike Harris

Mike was good friends with Julie and Jim, at first he was like a brother to Julie and couldn't imagine starting a relationship with her. He doesn't dare to ask Julie about her previous relationship with Jim. He distrusted Richard from the start, believing he couldn't compete with him. Still in love with Julie, he feels guilty about his old friend Jim.

Singer

Singer is the main character and the catalyst of the story. He brings Mike and Julie together and realizes that Richard is not who Julie thinks he is.
