Dual SIM adapter

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A dual SIM adapter is an accessory for a mobile phone that is connected to the SIM card slot and can itself accommodate two or more SIM cards. This means that several SIM cards can be used with one device, but not simultaneously (at the same time) as with a real dual SIM mobile phone , but alternatively (alternately) - the dual SIM adapter does not give the mobile phone two receiving units.

use

Using a dual SIM adapter avoids having to carry several cell phones with you when using several network cards (for example business / private or home country / abroad).

Alternatively, this can also be achieved with just one special SIM card that has two telephone numbers, known as Twinbill at T-Mobile . Here, too, only one number is active for outgoing calls, but the provider automatically redirects incoming calls so that the customer can always be reached at both numbers at the same time.

technology

As a special form, special mobile phone batteries with integrated dual SIM adapters are also available on the market.

Switching between the two SIM cards can be done by switching it on / off or by menu or numeric code.

With some adapters, the SIM cards have to be cut to size; the two reduced cards are then inserted into the adapter, which in turn replaces the SIM card in the mobile phone. Other adapter types work without cutting - there the second SIM card is connected to a short cable, e.g. B. between the battery and the housing cover. One advantage of the adapters with cut-to-size cards is that they mechanically fit into almost all cell phones; a disadvantage is that cutting the cards to size is not completely safe and some SIM cards cannot be cut to size because the integrated chip is larger than usual and extends into areas of the card that should actually be cut off.

Not all adapters support UMTS operation. Compatibility problems are not uncommon and depend not only on the adapter and mobile phone, but also on the SIM cards used.
