The Dublin City Library and Archive (also known as Gilbert Library , Irish Leabharlann agus Cartlann Bhaile Átha Cliath ) was opened in Dublin in 1909 and is a listed building (number: 6514).
history
Designed by architect CJ McCarthy, the library building was built around 1900 at 138-144 Pearse Street in Dublin and opened as the Gilbert Library in 1909. Around 100 years later, the building was expanded again. Mount Charles limestone sandstone was used for the original facade. In order to highlight the facade, it is illuminated with floodlights at night. Architectural features are the Palladian windows above the entrance and the portico. The Gilbert Library is a classic library, but also houses the city archive.
