Oldbury Railway

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Oldbury Railway was a British railroad company in the West Midlands of England.

The company was founded on July 21, 1873 as "Dudley and Oldbury Junction Railway". It was planned to build a railway line from Langley Green to Halesowen . At the same time, an agreement to operate the line was concluded with the Great Western Railway (GWR). Since only a 2.5 km long line to Oldbury was built, the company changed the name to "Oldbury Railway" on August 11, 1881. In 1884 the line was opened for freight traffic and on May 1, 1885 for passenger traffic. On July 31, 1894, the GWR took over the Oldbury Railway. Passenger traffic was stopped on March 3, 1915 and freight traffic on September 7, 1964.
