Three generations of women live together under one roof in one house. The 80-year-old grandmother Aggie, who always makes her claims sick , despotic and arrogant. But thanks to her alert mind she also deals with the unpleasant truths of life. Her daughter June, who continues to expect nothing but disappointments due to her failed marriage, suffers from this in particular. She reacts tightly, bigoted and self-righteously to all external suggestions. The burdens of caring for obese aggie and her unpopular profession as a teacher go beyond their limits. As a blatant alternative to this, granddaughter Frances carefree enjoys the freedom of college life . Since Frances visits the two older ones again after a long time, Aggie and June hang on to their expectations and memories related to Frances, so that a portrait of both female generations emerges. An era in which women could not necessarily actively participate in shaping their living conditions.
