Spread of Brochs - Red

Dun Bragar (or Dun Bhagair) is a dilapidated Broch at Bragar near the northwest coast of the Hebrides -Insel Isle of Lewis and Harris in Scotland . It is located in the north of Loch an Duna, about 80.0 m south of the A858 road on the western outskirts of Bragar. In the middle of the 20th century, the local population removed many of its stones and the structure is no longer clearly visible.

The broch in the lake must have been as magnificent a sight in the Iron Age as the later castles in Scottish lakes are. A stone dam leads from the mainland to the island. There are the remains of three transverse walls in the dam to control access. The brochure still shows the traces of a gallery in the wall and parts of a ledge for the support of a wooden false ceiling. There was also a large outbuilding on the island connected by a wall that is now partially submerged in the lake.
