Through desert and wilderness ( Polish : W pustyni iw puszczy ) is an adventure novel by the Polish writer and Nobel Prize winner Henryk Sienkiewicz .

action

The Sudan during the uprising against the English : Staś Tarkowski and Nel Rawlison, children of Poland and an Englishman who as engineers on the Suez Canal work are kidnapped by insurgents. The children can escape from captivity. Accompanied by the Africans Kali and Mea, you cross the African desert. Eventually they meet their fathers again.

In 1910 and 1911 W pustyni iw puszczy appeared as a sequel in the Warsaw Courier . Sienkiewicz drew on his own experiences from a trip to Africa for his work.

Film adaptations

The novel has been filmed twice so far:

In 1973 the two-part feature film Through Desert and Jungle was released , from which a four-part mini - series was cut in 1974 . It is one of the most successful Polish films in Poland.

In 2001 there was a remake called Through Desert and Wilderness , directed by Gavin Hood .
