Flow sight glass

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A flow sight glass is a sight glass that is characterized by a clearly definable flow space through which a medium flows.

A simple variant is a pipe body that is provided with connection flanges and two viewing openings (pipe inspection glasses). Based on this basic design, multi-way sight glass fittings and housings with multiple viewing openings are also possible.

Tube sight glasses

Pipe sight glasses occupy a special position among the flow-through sight glasses. While most sight glass fittings contain the sight glass plates according to DIN 7080 as much as possible, the central component of a tube sight glass is a glass tube, usually made of borosilicate glass . This creates a flow cross-section with almost no dead space, but the possible operating pressure is considerably reduced. In order to protect the sensitive glass surface from damage during operation, an impact protection made of Plexiglas is often also installed.
