The Walchwil Station is an SBB -Bahnhof in the field of community Walchwil and has an important function as a crossing point for trains between train and Arth-Goldau . In addition to the train station, there is also the Walchwil Hörndli tram stop in the municipality.

Investments

The train station on the single-track line between Zug and Arth-Goldau offers the possibility of crossing trains over a distance of around 450 meters. This has also been possible in Zug Oberwil since 2010 . The two main tracks of the station are located on a common, 320-meter-long central platform and are referred to as tracks 2 and 3. Track 1 at the station building is designed as a butt track and is not used according to the schedule. The reception building includes facilities such as toilets and rooms for the local playgroup. There is an old gatekeeper's house on the Oberwil side of the turnout, which is managed by a private person.

Expansion of double lane

In the next few years, the line between Walchwil station and Walchwil Hörndli is to be expanded to double lanes in order to enable train crossings at a total of around 2200 meters. This is particularly useful for the S2 trains in the direction of Baar Lindenpark , as they can continue their journey while waiting for the opposite train and therefore save around 90 seconds, which ensures connections in Zug to the Interregio Lucerne - Zurich HB . The railway line between Zug Oberwil and Arth-Goldau will be closed for one and a half years to ensure that the work can be carried out efficiently. The long-distance trains will be diverted to the other side of the lake, via the hairpin in Rotkreuz . A replacement rail service with buses will be set up for the S2 . The start of construction was originally planned for the end of 2016, but was postponed to the end of 2017 at the earliest due to a pending complaint.

business

The station is almost exclusively served by the S2 of the Stadtbahn Zug , which runs between Baar Lindenpark and Erstfeld , with every second connection in the station every two hour Monday to Saturday - the other hour it already turns in Zug Oberwil - and goes back in the direction of Zug . This creates an inaccurate half-hourly cycle (departures 02/41) in the direction of Zug – Baar Lindenpark, although the trains from Erstfeld do not serve the Walchwil Hörndli stop , and an hourly cycle in the direction of Arth-Goldau –Erstfeld. A RegioExpress from Brunnen to Zurich HB also stops in Walchwil every morning . The return train in the evening passes the station like the other long-distance trains without stopping.

Intersections

In contrast to the crossing point in Zug Oberwil, where two Zug Stadtbahn trains always meet, the double lane is used to cross them with the long-distance trains Zurich – Erstfeld / Lugano / Milan . Due to the many delays of long-distance trains in the morning hours, the light rail vehicles often have to wait for counter-trains and receive delays, which leads to very tight or missed connections in trains.

The situation was partly defused, since the error-prone than "Pannenzug" known ETR-470 - tilting trains in December 2015, through the new, more reliable ETR-610 -compositions were replaced. Failed ETR 470s were often replaced by locomotive-hauled trains that could not keep to the schedule due to the lack of tilting technology.

Bus transport

There is a bus stop on the station forecourt, which is served by lines 5 and 21 of the Zugerland Verkehrsbetriebe and the Walchwil local bus, also operated by the ZVB, which is noted as line 26 on the route network map. The local bus connects the station in a circular route with the settlement areas to the east, while lines 5 and 21, which are operationally connected to a continuous bus route Zug Bahnhofplatz - Arth-Goldau Bahnhof , connect the lake-side local areas with the Walchwil station.
