Walchwil is a municipality in the canton of Zug in Switzerland .
geography
The municipality of Walchwil is nestled on the eastern shore of Lake Zug (440 m above sea level) on the southern slope of the Zugerberg (1000 m above sea level), in Central Switzerland, in the Swiss plateau .
The area of the community area of 15.9 km² comprises a section on the east bank of Lake Zug, at the transition from the Swiss plateau to the pre-alpine hilly landscape. Walchwil borders the canton capital Zug to the north, the municipality of Unterägeri to the east and the municipality of Arth in the canton of Schwyz to the south . The Walchwils water area borders in the west on that of the communities of Immensee in the canton of Schwyz and Meierskappel in the canton of Lucerne .

Walchwil is protected on the slope between the Zugerberg and Rossberg. Because of this, Walchwil is often referred to as the "Zug Riviera" or the "Zugerian Nice". Excellent chestnuts, figs, kiwis and grapes thrive as a major specialty in Walchwil. Walchwil is also known for its many fruit trees - especially cherry trees, from which the famous Zug cherry is made.

The Walchwil municipality coat of arms consists of a green fir tree. Six red pine cones hang from this fir tree. These represent the six old families of Hürlimann, Rust, Müller, Enzler, Roth and Röllin of the Walchwil community.

Road traffic
Walchwil is on the main road H25 . The A4 motorway junction in Arth-Goldau is only a few kilometers away from Walchwil. The village is mostly divided into Vorderbergstrasse (north side) and Hinterbergstrasse (south side). Forchwaldstrasse runs between the two streets. On October 15, 2018, the Oberdorfstrasse was opened, which serves as a north access and is intended to relieve the traffic in the village center.
Public transport

Walchwil station is served hourly by line S2 of the Zug urban railway ( Zug - Arth-Goldau - Brunnen - Erstfeld ). In 2010, the Walchwil Hörndli stop was opened on Hörndlirain . It is served by the S2, which has been running every half hour between Walchwil and Baar Lindenpark, and every hour to Erstfeld.
Since June 19, 2019, the railway line between Zug and Arth-Goldau has been closed due to construction work until the end of 2020.
- Bus transport
Walchwil is served by three lines of the Zugerland Verkehrsbetriebe . Line 5 connects Walchwil with the city of Zug, while line 21 runs from Walchwil via Arth and Oberarth to Goldau . Most of the buses on the two lines are connected to the Goldau - Zug route. From Monday to Friday there is a local bus circuit (line 26) in the morning and evening.
Since the rail line was closed, replacement buses with a fast track to Zug have also been offered.
Village and club life
Walchwil has a very active village and club life. Around 35 clubs are active in Walchwil.
Musical associations
The “Edelweiss” yodelling club and the “Echo vo de Bärenegg” alphorn players mainly cultivate the folkloric style of music, while the church choir performs the church performances. The «Musikgesellschaft Walchwil», founded in 1895, which rehearses in the new music school building, plays in harmony and maintains a varied repertoire, which includes styles from traditional brass music to modern light music. In the early 20th century, the music society gave birth to the “6er music”, which has its own traditional style of music. Since 2006 there has been a further small information of the Musikgesellschaft Walchwil: The Riviera-Band maintains a mixed repertoire, which ranges from old hits to Dixieland to modern rock rhythms.
Carnival
The Fasnachtsgesellschaft organizes a carnival parade every three years. In addition, the carnival society elects the carnival heads ("Hudivater" and "Vize-Hudivater"), the " Walachei " ( the carnival name of Walchwil) for three years . The «Guggemusig Cheschtänärigler» takes care of the carnival music.

The range of sports clubs in Walchwil includes a bike club, a football club, gymnastics clubs for women, men, children and senior citizens, a tennis club, a motorcycle club and a military shooting club.
Various
The "Bärgtrichler" maintain the traditional Chlausjagen , which takes place on 5 December. Other clubs in Walchwil are the blue ring, the scout and the traditional costume dance group, which promote traditional folk dance in the pretty Walchwil costumes.
